Washington Mutual or WaMu for short is now part of JPMorgan Chase and focuses on middle-market consumers, small businesses and commercial customers.



WaMu is the largest thrift in the country and offers consumer and commercial banking services through its 2,200+ branches in the West, New York, and Connecticut, and another 500 or so loan and administrative offices nationwide. WaMu was one of the largest originators and services of residential mortgages in the US and was brought down by the mortgage business. WaMu exited the mortgage business after the 2007 housing crisis and was acquired by JPMorgan Chase for approximately $2 billion.
